چکیده
The preceding paper of this series was pubhshed so long ago as 1907. Following Mr. E. B. WiUiamson's kind suggestion, I propose to attempt to carry on in this and in subsequent parts the faunistic survey commenced by himself. In the first place I must express my regret that he should be unable to complete the wori^ so admirably begun, and my appreciation of my own inadequacy to continue the series at the high level at which it started. I shall endeavor to follow the general plan of his two papers, and I have to thank him and likewise the authorities of the L^nited States National Museum for the opportunity of dealing with the large and important collections on which this account is based. The material available consists of: 1, Several thousands of specimens collected by Mr. R. A. Earnshaw in the Karenni and Toungu

Dragonflies (Odonata) from South-Eastern Iran
Twenty-seven species of Odonata were collected in the present survey in the freshwaters of South-Eastern Iran, Kerman province, in contrast to 11 species that were recorded previously from this region. In this study, 528 specimens were collected from more than 30 sites in Kerman province during 2006-2008. It seems that in this region due to its special biogeographic conditions, species diversit...
متن کاملThe Dragonfly Family Libellulidae (Insecta: Odonata: Anisoptera) of Shiraz and its Vicinity (Fars Province, Iran)
Thirteen species in five genera of the Libellulidae family were collected in a survey of dragonflies (Odonata) of Shiraz and its vicinity, involving 19 locations, The presented records of the libellulid dragonflies taken from the Fars province comprise a first time collection of two genera, Sympetrum and Pantala, and seven species, Orthetrum anceps Schnider, Orthetrum taeniolatum Schneider, Ort...
متن کاملPerspectives on Odonata
This thesis considers the phylogeny of Odonata from two different viewpoints. The first article, “The Palaeoptera Problem”, is an attempt at placing Odonata in the pterygote insect phylogenetic tree. The second, “A phylogenetic perspective on larval spine morphology in Leucorrhinia (Odonata, Libellulidae)”, is an in-depth view of the whiteface dragonflies, a monophyletic group that only contain...
متن کاملThermoregulating Ability and Minimum Flight Temperature in Interior Alaska Dragonflies (odonata: Anisoptera) Recommended:
The use of operative environmental temperature (Te) has been a major advance in the study of thermal ecology. I review the use of operative temperature in thermal biology with an emphasis on insects. Then I use data from dragonflies in Interior Alaska (Odonata: Anisoptera) to compare the efficacy of operative and ambient temperature when examining thermoregulating ability. I conclude that altho...
متن کاملThermal ecology of Interior Alaska dragonflies (Odonata: Anisoptera)
1. We examined the thermal ecology of Interior Alaska dragonflies (Odonata: Anisoptera). The relationships between mass and passive cooling rate, wing loading, minimum flight temperature (MFT) and thermoregulating ability were examined. These properties were also compared between the behavioural classes: perchers and fliers. All factors with the addition of seasonal and daily flight activity we...
